HIGHLAND PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The father of the alleged Highland Park Fourth of July shooter will have to wait until the end of the month before he knows whether the criminal case against him will continue.

Robert Crimo Jr., father of Robert Crimo III, is seeking to have reckless conduct charges dismissed.

He was charged for signing off on his then underage son’s FOID Card, despite what, prosecutors said, were red flags, including threats to family members and himself.

“Parents who help their kids get weapons of war are morally and legally responsible when those kids hurt others with those weapons,” Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Reinhart said at the time.

The father was charged with seven counts, one for each of the people killed in the parade shooting.

His lawyer argued the law is unconstitutionally vague.

The son faces more than 100 criminal charges, including first degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery.

Both have pleaded not guilty.

A judge will decide on the father’s motion to dismiss on August 28.
