CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Welcome to summer.
With sweltering conditions beginning Sunday, it appears this heat wave will stick around for the rest of the work week.
Today is likely to be the peak, the National Weather Service says, with the combination of blistering sunshine and oppressive humidity resulting in heat indices nearing 105 degrees. Chicago will flirt with the record high temperature of 96, set in 1957.
There won’t be much relief tonight. Temps are expected to remain in the upper 70s.
According to AccuWeather, the next four days look to be near carbon copies of each other: scorching hot and muggy. High temperatures will sit in the 90s each day.
The Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) has activated six community service centers as cooling centers. They will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors will need to wear a face covering while in all the centers. The Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) will give free face coverings for those who do not have one.

Here are symptoms of heatstroke:
- An extremely high body temperature, such as 103 degrees or above
- Dizziness and nausea
- A throbbing headache and a pulse that is rapid and strong
