Will County Sheriff's K-9 Lizzy finding missing man in Bolingbrook

Will County Sheriff’s Police K-9 Officer Lizzy is getting kudos for quick work in locating a missing man last week.

The Will County Sheriff’s Office says it took K-9 Officer Lizzy less than 20 minutes after getting a whiff of the missing Bolingbrook man’s clothing to find the 71-year old who has dementia.

Police say the Apple AirTag he had with him had last pinged near a hotel near his home on Falcon Ridge Way. The Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page shows body cam video of Lizzy and her handler going through some bushes and into a gravel clearing where the man was found lying on the ground late at night.

He had been missing for more than five hours.

As a reminder, the Will County Sheriff’s Office says it has free SCENT KITS to give to loved ones who care for people who are at risk of wandering off, including those with Alzheimer's, autism, dementia or other disabilities.

The Sheriff's Office began offering the free SCENT KIT program in 2020. The kits are used to collect and preserve the at-risk person's unique scent. The kits preserve that scent for up to 10 years, according to the office. The kits give police K-9s a head start during searches for missing people.
