(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Round Lake Beach man has been charged with aggravated domestic battery, hitting a police dog and resisting arrest after a weekend incident that sent a relative to the hospital.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said 36-year-old Sanjuan Reyes was covered in blood and intoxicated when he drove to a relative’s home in Joliet early Saturday.

His family called police because, according to the sheriff’s office, they were worried that he killed a different relative with whom he lives.

Officers did not find him at his Round Lake Beach home, but they found his car — with blood inside — near Route 83 and Rollins Road.

The sheriff’s office used its K9 Dax to find Reyes, who officials said was hiding in bushes about a half-mile away from the vehicle. He refused to surrender, and Dax bit him. Officials said Reyes hit the dog during his arrest. Dax was not injured.

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with broken bones.

Reyes appeared in court on Sunday, where a judge ordered him held for a detention hearing.
