GENEVA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There was a line out the door at an early voting site in west suburban Geneva Monday morning.

Kane County opened two in-person voting sites last week, one at the clerk’s office in Geneva, the other at the satellite office in Aurora.

“We've had a good turnout,” said Kane County Clerk John Cunningham. “There's a great interest in this election.”

The numbers prove it.

The first day of early voting in 2024 surpassed figures from the last presidential election.

“Four years ago, on the first day, we had 400-some votes,” Cunningham said. “We have 600-some now, so that's a third increase from four years ago.”

With a heightened interest comes heightened security measures.

In addition to poll watchers, the Kane County Clerk’s Office says it has  taken extra steps this year to prevent election fraud.

“Every precinct will be visited by a police officer either from the County or from the City. So, we've got two layers of security there if there's any monkey business going on,” Cunningham says.

Early voters can cast their ballot at the Clerk’s Office in Geneva and the Aurora Satellite Office Monday through Friday.

All other in-person voting sites in Kane County open October 21.
