(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The body of a 25-year-old man from Kenosha, Wis., was pulled from the Chain O’Lakes by Lake County Sheriff’s deputies Sunday morning.

A sheriff's office spokesman said the department's marine unit responded to reports of a man who went underwater in what's known as the “Long Channel,” located between Petite Lake and Spring Lake, shortly after 1 a.m.

His body was not found until approximately 6:30 a.m., officials said.

Investigators believe the man was most likely heavily intoxicated and was observed drinking at a birthday party, according to the sheriff’s office press release. Following the party, the man was said to have returned to a home in unincorporated Lake Villa, where he jumped from a pier into the water with his clothes on.

Officials said he returned to shore, after which a relative helped the man remove his wet clothing and took him to bed.

The sheriff’s office said the man left his bed “a short time later” and jumped into the water again, without clothing. They said he attempted to swim across the channel and went underwater.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit is still investigating the man’s death.
