Restaurant worker celebrated for saving life

Fire Chief Fabio Puccini, Bill Taylor and Dave & Buster's GM Casey Fitzpatrick

Village of Schaumburg

Schaumburg is honoring a restaurant worker for saving a co-worker’s life with CPR - and it’s not the first time he’s done it.

Trustees gave Bill Taylor the village’s Outstanding Citizen Award at their meeting Tuesday night.

In February, the kitchen manager performed chest compressions on a 58-year-old co-worker at Dave and Buster’s who had passed out and stopped breathing.

Schaumburg Fire Chief Fabio Puccini told the audience your odds of surviving sudden cardiac arrest almost double if someone performs CPR quickly.

Taylor, who lives in Aurora, modestly accepted the award and told the crowd everyone should learn CPR.

The Daily Herald reports he has performed the Heimlich maneuver on two customers at a previous restaurant job and on his son since learning it decades ago.

Chief Puccini reminded the public the fire department offers a CPR class every other month.

The next one is slated for August 12 and costs $65.
