(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Trump administration wants to sell the Kluczynski Federal Building and ten other sites in Chicago as it pushes forward with plans to shrink the U.S. government.

The list of 14 “non core” General Services Administration properties in the state includes ones in Carbondale, Quincy and East Saint Louis. Not on the list is the Dirksen Federal Courthouse and the Post Office building at Clark and Adams in the Loop.

The Kluczynski is a 42-story building designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe that has offices for the Department of Labor, DEA, IRS and the state’s two U.S. Senators- Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth.

A spokesperson for the GSA says unneeded space costs the government more than $430 million a year to run and maintain.

While the list is subject to change, they say Public Buildings Service is committed to delivering world class work environments for federal employees as they return to the office.
