'Horrible, unacceptable language': North suburban congressman chastises Trump for recent Jan. 6 comments

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Democratic Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi is criticizing former President Donald Trump and other Republicans for trying to downplay the Jan. 6 insurrection in their campaign rhetoric.

Krishnamoorthi was on Capitol Hill when crowds marched on the Capitol at Donald Trump's urging and later forced their way in. He rejects the former president labeling those people prosecuted for the breach as ''hostages.''

“I think that’s completely horrible, unacceptable language,” Krishnamoorthi said. “January 6 was a harrowing day, one of the darkest days in our democracy. I lived through it, along with my colleagues, and it left scars on our nation. It traumatized our people as a whole.”

He added that those who participated in the insurrection deserve to be treated like everyone else, under the law.

The Schaumburg Democrat said the insurrectionists ransacked, stole property and assaulted police officers. He has introduced a resolution calling on Congress to declare every Jan. 6 as a day of remembrance for those who died that day.
