(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- For the third winter in a row the La Nina weather pattern will impact the Chicago region's winter weather.
It will start with colder water in the Pacific Ocean near the equator. Thousands of miles away in Chicago, that can mean a winter with a greater chance of precipitation -- either snow or rain, depending on the temperature.
National Weather Service meteorologist Ricky Castro says La Nina winters are known for their wild temperature swings.
In 2021-22, some 32.8 inches of snow fell at O'Hare. The airport received 48.8 inches the year before.
