(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Up to six months of rent could be paid for Lake County residents who have faced financial hardship from the COVID-19 pandemic and who are already at least one month behind on their rent.

Lake County renters may now apply for the Rental Assistance Program via the county's website through April 14.

Households that have already received more than six months of total assistance from the Lake County or Federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program will not be eligible.

According to the county’s website, a financial hardship could include: job loss, furlough, increased utility bills, unexpected medical bills or other expenses. Those who have faced other circumstances should call 211 to ask questions regarding eligibility.

Those with questions, or those who need help with their application, were encouraged to call 211 or text their zip code to 898211 to be connected to a referral agency.

Find the application website here.
