Lake Forest, Villa Park Metra ticket offices to close July 26

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Metra riders at two suburban stations are going to have to start buying their tickets another way, as ticket sales are ending at the stations.

According to Metra, due to declining on-site ticket sales at the Lake Forest Station on the Union Pacific North Line and the Villa Park Station on the UP West Line, the ticket offices at these stations will close at the end of business on July 26.

Even before the pandemic, Metra said those two stations were at the bottom for ticket sales at staffed stations. Many passengers have switched to mobile purchasing, Metra said, with about 47 percent of customers now purchasing tickets via the Ventra App.

Lake Forest and Villa Park station riders will be able to pay with cash on trains with no surcharge for inbound trips or purchase tickets via the Ventra app. Riders can also purchase tickets at the Ogilvie Transportation Center.
