CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Three men were hospitalized Sunday morning after they were shot while walking in Chicago’s Lake View neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Authorities said it happened just before 1 a.m. near Broadway and Barry Avenue, near a Mariano’s and a CVS drugstore.
The three men were walking on the sidewalk when shots were fired.
All three of the men were taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital. One of them was in serious condition after being struck in the back and chest.
The other two — a 22-year-old who was shot in the leg and a 32-year-old who was shot in the back — were in good condition, police said.
Officials said no one was in custody. Area Three detectives are investigating.
Elsewhere in the city, eight people were killed and at least 33 others were injured in shootings that took place between Friday evening and early Saturday.
The violence also came close to Mayor Brandon Johnson’s doorstep, as a person was found dead in an apparent homicide less than two blocks from the first-term mayor’s West Side home.
Gunfire rang out at North Avenue Beach during a fight Friday afternoon only hours after the city beaches officially opened for the summer. No one was wounded in that shooting.
In 2022, 51 people were reported shot in the city over Memorial Day weekend, which topped the number from the previous five years. Nine of those people were killed and 42 more were injured, according to Chicago Sun-Times data.
