(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Bird migration season draws birders to the Chicago lakefront, binoculars and cameras at the ready, and Tuesday was one of those days.
A popular stop along the bird migration “superhighway” is the Bird Sanctuary at Montrose Harbor.
Linda Welsh said she discovered the bird sanctuary during COVID. In fact, the spot “really is a sanctuary for a lot of people,” she said.
Step inside and you’d hardly know you’re in the city. Tony Flemming was on one of the trails. He said he frequently visits during the spring and fall migration seasons, birds of no, because of the peaceful atmosphere.
The Birdcast Migration Dashboard reported just under 2 million birds passing over Cook County between 7 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. and places like this sanctuary serve as important rest areas.
