West Side residents turned out in large numbers this morning for the unveiling of a special street sign.
“This is going to serve as a daily reminder of the great man that served this entire community, this West Garfield Park community.”
Here at the intersection of Monroe and Kildare now hangs a third sign, Honorary Officer Larry Neuman Sr. Way.
Among those on hand, 28th Ward Alderman Jason Ervin.

“I get honorary street requests probably once a week and I have to tell them all the same thing. ‘I only get two a year.’ But this one came across my desk and there was no way that we would not honor a man who not only served this community and loved this community, but was of this community.”
Neuman was a Chicago Police bomb technician, a Marine veteran, Reverend and Sunday school teacher.

In June of 2024, he was fatally shot during a robbery blocks away from his home.
“On behalf of the family, I would like to say that Larry is gone, but he’s still taking care of home.”
