(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Doctors at a local addiction treatment center say there’s plenty to take from Matthew Perry’s story, and that reaching out for help is just one way to honor the late actor’s legacy.
“If somebody hears a lot of their story in Matthew Perry’s, there definitely are options and places to go," Dr. Puneet Lakhmani said.
One of those places to go is Rosecrance, where Lakhmani works as an Addiction Medicine Physician.
“He was such a vocal advocate for people struggling with substance use disorders,” he said. “I think he did such a good job of saying ‘this is a really hard disease and isn’t something that you just solve."
However, Lakhmani said there are options available for those dealing with addiction or substance use disorders and that Perry’s death could motivate more people to reflect on their own lives and possibly seek help.
“There is support out there. There are people who care and people who are willing to bust their butts to make sure you get the help you deserve.”
