Chicago police are touting declines in shootings from August to September, even though the city has racked up more murders and shooting incidents so far in 2020 compared to the previous three years.
Chicago police on Thursday released year-to-date crime statistics.
They say September was the third consecutive month that the number of shooting incidents dropped — down 19% from August to September.
Overall crime dropped 2 percent from September 2020 compared to September of last year.
But specifically, the totals for shootings and murders so far this year far exceed the totals of the same time period for the past three years.
There have been 588 murders so far this year, compared to 392 for the same period last year.
There are more than 3,100 shooting victims so far this year, compared to not quite 2,000 last year.
