(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 45-foot Colorado blue spruce was lit up in lights Friday, casting the holiday spirit over Millennium Park.

The city’s latest official Christmas tree came courtesy of the Delacruz family of Darien.

Before the tree-lighting, Abby Delacruz told CBS 2 that decorating the tree was always a family tradition. But the tree eventually got too big.

The event included multiple viewing locations around the park with screens and concessions.

New this year was a main stage on Washington Street at Michigan Avenue, at the Chicago Cultural Center.
