CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A defense attorney raised questions in court Tuesday about the circumstances of a Chicago police traffic stop that left an officer and the attorney's client wounded.
27-year old Jermone Halsey is charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery for allegedly shooting and wounding a Chicago police officer Sunday in the Englewood neighborhood. In court, his public defender said there's still a lot still unknown about that traffic stop in a dead-end alley on 69th and Sangamon. Such as, did the unmarked police SUV have its lights and sirens on?
The defense attorney said Halsey is a legal gun owner with a concealed carry permit. The attorney said Halsey had feared for his life not knowing who was in the SUV.
Prosecutors, however, said police were in-uniform and that the wounded officer was shot just feet from Halsey.
