(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Sometimes making a drastic career switch to follow your passion is often a key ingredient to success.
Emily Groden previously was a corporate lawyer in the field of mergers and acquisitions but realized “it wasn’t what made me tick.”
What actually made her tick was food, she said, and so she segued into practicing law on behalf of restaurateurs. Then listening to a podcast about the frozen-food space gave her another idea.
“They were talking about the frozen-breakfast market and how big it was and how it was still so dominated by that brand that rhymes with Legos,” Groden told the Noon Business Hour on Friday.
Because she was expecting her first child, she knew she would be feeding her kid something easy to make like waffles.
“I was inspired to make my own better version,” she said.

Thus was born Evergreen, her brand of waffles, which has a “super clean” ingredient list.
“All of our waffles have under 12 ingredients,” she said. “We have absolutely no preservatives, no refined sugar. Our waffles are flavored with real fruits, vegetables, nuts and spices.”
Flavors include peanut butter and banana; zucchini and carrot and chocolate chip and matcha.
The product is in Mariano’s, Foxtrot and Whole Foods.
