Lawyers for the city of Chicago are recommending settlements in two deaths that happened during police chases five years ago.

City lawyers are recommending a total of $2.5 million in settlements to the families of 54-year old Ezell Ricky Island and 40-year old Mignonne Robinson.

Island and Robinson were killed three days apart in 2020, when the cars they were in were hit by vehicles being chased by Chicago police for suspected traffic violations.

Island was the father of nine children and was in the back seat of the car that was hit. His family would get one-and-a-half million dollars. Robinson had been the owner of a nail salon. Her family would get a million dollars. The City Council Finance Committee is scheduled to take up the recommendations next week.
