(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Students at St. Ignatius College Prep on Chicago’s Near West Side have been asked to adhere to an adjusted dress code.

In a letter to parents this week, officials at the private coed Jesuit school said boys will need to tuck in their shirts, and dress shoes are expected on Mass days.

The biggest change, effective Nov. 1, involves an item worn by female students.

“The most troublesome aspect of our dress code … is skirt length. This is true not only at our school but at many Catholic schools across the area,” Dr. Geoff Miller, Prefect of Mission, said in the communication.

Some female students would like to keep skirts as an option, Miller said. Those who wear them will be expected to wear full-length leggings or tights, although exceptions may be made in warm weather.

Leggings and tights will be made available for female students in case they forget, officials said.
