(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new life ring installed along the lakefront has, for the second time, been used to rescue someone in trouble.
No one can say for sure that the life ring thrown to a struggling man in the waves along a pier at Jarvis Beach saved his life. But it came on a day when there were numerous rescues — and drownings — in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
This week, Rogers Park Ald. Maria Hadden took to Facebook to thank the Good Samaritans who quickly helped the man in distress.
The Chicago Park District installed more than 100 life rings along the lakefront in the spring, after resisting calls to do so for years.
The district cited liability concerns. The governor signed legislation requiring the installation of life rings.
