(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lori Lightfoot says she’s not worried about anyone who’s running against her, even as the wide field grows.
She downplayed the competition, which now includes Congressman Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, who lost to Rahm Emanuel in a mayoral runoff. Yet it’s been hard not to notice how some aldermanic allies have openly criticized her leadership. Susan Sadlowski Garza did it in an interview. Zoning Committee Chair Tom Tunney did in during the recent city budget vote.
Neither are running for her post.
Lightfoot said she just needs to keep doing her job and providing development and financial stability for the city. She said politics will take care of themselves.
Former Illinois governor Pat Quinn, who was considering a run for mayor, showed up at Lightfoot’s West Side event Tuesday, and she had public words of praise for him.
