Lightfoot happy that former CDPH commissioner named to Biden’s COVID-19 task force; hopes it will be good for Chicago

"There's already been some communications with her; and the one thing that I am certainly going to be urging with this new team is that they get mayors at the table."

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lori Lightfoot seems delighted with the news that former Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Julie Morita will be a member of President-elect Biden's Coronavirus Task Force.

Mayor Lightfoot said she already felt indebted to former Commissioner Dr. Julie Morita for originally hiring and later recommending Chicago’s current CDPH Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady.

Now the Mayor is happy Morita will be working with the White House.

"Dr. Morita obviously knows the city very well. She's a national expert. There's already been some communications with her; and the one thing that I am certainly going to be urging with this new team is that they get mayors at the table," Lightfoot said.

"We have not been at the table at the previous iteration of the Coronavirus Task Force. Everything that the task force wants to do and implement has to be implemented at the local level, so we have to have a seat at that table."

Lightfoot said policies on COVID-19 have to be implemented at the local level, but so far municipal leaders have not had a voice. She hopes that will change.
