With new group, Lightfoot sets sights on underserved communities

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is one of the founders of a new organization that will help the city's most vulnerable residents and communities.

Lightfoot says the Chicago Vibrant Neighborhoods Collective will help community-based groups with "back office" tasks such as fundraising, budgeting marketing and communications so that the groups can focus on helping people.

“Government can’t do everything,” she told the City Club of Chicago on Thursday. “The reality is also that government is not always trusted – particularly among those who are vulnerable, have been locked out and ignored for far too long.”

Lightfoot said another goal of her organization is to encourage more businesses to invest in underserved communities.

She says that will give more people in need access to jobs and economic opportunities.
