CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Mayor Lightfoot said the city is ready and she wants people to take the weather seriously.

“We want to make sure that we, in the true spirit of Chicago, are looking out for each other and our neighbors,” Lightfoot said. “If you know there’s somebody in your network, a senior, a vulnerable resident, or just somebody who’s disconnected, reach out to them, make sure that they got the provisions that they need, food and water and shelter, but also just reach out and make sure that they know there’s somebody who’s looking out for them and has their back.”

If you don’t have to be out, Lightfoot said, don’t be. Stay home and wait it out.

Chicago mayors and others urging people to check on the elderly and those with health issues became a regular thing after the deadly heat wave of 1995.
