UPDATE: Man killed, 4 cops injured in Lincoln Park apartment fire

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) —A man died Sunday at the scene of an apartment fire in Lincoln Park which was initially thought to have been the scene of a shooting.

It is unclear what exactly happened in the seventh floor apartment on the 400 block of West Wrightwood Avenue, but its believed that Demarlo M. Branch, 31 jumped from the unit. He was found bleeding in the alley from what was first thought to have been a shooting.

Then police realized there was a fire on the top floor and said the incident is being investigated as arson. Residents told CBS 2 that police swarmed the building to get people out.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that four officers were treated for smoke inhalation from the fire and were transported to a hospital for evaluation. The city fire department said the fire started in the kitchen of the apartment.

No other details have been released at this time.
