CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - As a former Marine appeared in court on charges related to the shooting death of a man in Lincoln Park on the day before Thanksgiving, prosecutors revealed new allegations against the suspect.

Investigators said, a man, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as 34-year-old Alexander Nesteruk of Wheaton, had been acting erratically on Clark Street near Fullerton Avenue

Prosecutors said Nesteruk kicked a leg in the direction of 35-year-old John Conway, but didn't hit him.

Police said Conway pulled out a handgun and shot Nesteruk once. Nesteruk died last Monday.

Police said Conway turned himself in on Wednesday.

Prosecutors said a search of Conway's apartment, which is blocks from the crime scene, turned up several guns including a sniper-type rifle, ballistic armor, and night vision equipment.

CBS News Chicago reported Conway's attorney claimed his client, who had a valid FOID card and concealed carry permit, acted in self-defense, and that the items found in his apartment could be explained by his service as a Marine.

Prosecutors said police also found maps marking locations in the neighborhood as well as several colleges in Illinois in Conway's apartment as well as a plan to harm an unnamed individual at a specific event that included escape routes.
