CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some people like to get into the Christmas spirit by giving the gift of spirits for christmas.

Carly Katz is the owner of Bottles and Cans, an upscale liquor store with two locations on Chicago's North Side.

She told the WBBM Noon Business Hour that people do like to give the gift of alcohol at holiday time, and she said wine advent calendars are big sellers.

A wine advent calendar is a box containing 25 smaller bottles of wine that can be enjoyed during the first 25 days of December — or whenever the mood strikes.

"It's a good gift for people you know and know what they love, and it's a good gift for people you don't know and don't know what they love," Katz said.

She added that barware and pre-made cocktail kits are popular gift items as well.

“Pre-made cocktails that you add your spirit in, and you allow it to kind of meld over a couple of days, and then you have this delicious, cultivated little cocktail that you make in your home,” Katz said.

When it came to so-called “Cocktails of the Year,” Katz said she keeps seeing the espresso martini take home the title — as it did in 2022.
