LISLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Lisle Police Department on Thursday released dash camera footage of a fatal accident that happened on the eastbound Interstate 88 tollway ramp shortly after 1:13 a.m. Tuesday following a traffic stop.

A Lisle police officer saw the driver, identified as 30-year-old Marcus L. Thomas, driving 20-miles above the posted speed limit near the 1500 block of Ogden Avenue, according to a Lisle police press release. The officer turned on his emergency lights in an attempt to get Thomas to pull over. While the officer was receiving notification that the car was reported stolen in Chicago, the Thomas sped away at a high rate and headed north onto Naper Boulevard, the press release continued.

Lisle police officers found the car on the entrance ramp to eastbound I-88, where it was determined to have been involved in a single-vehicle crash. Officers worked to free the driver and passenger from the vehicle until the Naperville Fire Department arrived and transported him and a passenger to Edward-Elmhurst Hospital in Naperville, where the driver was later pronounced dead, according to the press release.

"This was a tragic and unfortunate event. I appreciate the response from our officers and assistance from our law enforcement partners, including the Naperville Police and Fire Departments, Illinois State Police, and the DuPage County Sheriff's Office and State's Attorney's Office," Chief Ron Wilke said.

The drive has been identified as Chicago resident Marcus L. Thomas. At the time of the event, Thomas had a revoked Illinois driver's license and was wanted by the U.S. Marshal's Service for weapon offenses. Two loaded firearms, a .45-caliber Masterpiece Arms MAC-10 and a Glock .40-caliber handgun were recovered from the floorboard of the driver's seat, according to Lisle police.
