EVANSTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Evanston police are investigating following the weekend discovery of a loaded handgun in a parking lot near a school.
A person found the gun Saturday morning, at around 9:15 a.m., in the parking lot west of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Literary and Fine Arts School, a K-8 magnet school. Officers took the gun and admitted it as evidence.
Police said no students or staff were present at the school when the gun was found nor do they believe the gun was tied to any threats made against the school.
Detectives will attempt to determine where the gun came from.
