(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man from Chicago's Northwest Side interrupted a burglar at his home Thursday afternoon and smacked him with a frying pan.

Jason Williams got an alert on his phone that his alarm detected someone in his home in Logan Square.

Williams was close by when he got the alert, so he rushed there to catch the guy inside.

"Came in and I thought, do I grab a knife, do I grab a pan? I didn't want to kill anybody so I grabbed the frying pan. And within seconds, the burglar came down the stairs and a tussle happened and I whacked him pretty good in the head with the pan. And, you saw the video, the chase started outside."

The alarm company alerted police.

His doorbell camera caught the tail end of the incident.

The burglar is seen going out the front door with Williams in pursuit, still swinging the frying pan.

Police were there moments later and they took it from there.

The man was injured and taken to the hospital. On top of charge for residential burglary, he has also been charged for allegedly assaulting a nurse.
