Office of Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa (35th)

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Say goodbye to the Logan Square Zombie Tree; that's the message to 35th ward residents and others who visit the area from Ald. Carlos Ramierez-Rosa (35th).

The alderman said a contractor will be taking down the leafless and lifeless tree, which has stood dead in Logan Square Park for nearly a decade. The Zombie Tree will be removed as part of the Centennial Redesign Project.

The project includes a new bike path, raised crosswalks and pedestrian islands as the city reconfigures the traffic circle at Milwaukee Avenue, Kedzie Avenue and Logan Boulevard.

In an email to constituents, Ramirez-Rosa said his office has been working since 2023 to remove the "dead and dangerous tree."

A portion of the $27 million project is expected to be complete in two years.
