CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two women from Britain are using Chicago as their launch point for a drive on the so-called “Main Street of America.”
“Yeah, going on Route 66, can’t wait,” said Amy Roberts. We’re off to Springfield next, St. Louis, then Springfield again, and then Oklahoma City.”
Roberts and her longtime friend Rebecca Earle both live in London, but they’ll be celebrating their 30th birthdays by driving old Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles.
“We’re off to Springfield next, St. Louis, then Springfield again, and then Oklahoma City,” Earle said.
The highway. was officially designated as Route 66 back in 1926. Although the pair said they’re looking forward to Las Vegas and Los Angeles, they added that ‘there’s loads of different stuff along the way,’ including Cadillac Ranch in Texas, which they’re excited to see, as well.
“Very excited,” Roberts said. “A bit nervous to drive in the U.S., because we haven’t done that before, but [we] can’t wait.”
They're off to see the good things across the country, while also knowing of the bad.
“I’ve heard a lot about guns and stuff like that, but [we’re] not too worried,” Roberts said. “Just take every day as it comes.”
