CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Cook County prosecutors say a dispute between a rideshare driver and passenger led to a shooting inside a South Loop movie theater Saturday night.
35-year-old Babacar Mbengue allegedly picked up a gun dropped by his 16-year-old male passenger and fired several rounds into the floor of the ShowPlace Icon Theater, according to police and prosecutors.
They said the pair had been fighting after the boy and two females got out of the Lyft without paying. The Tribune reported a judge admonished Mbengue for a lack of judgment saying, “it’s illegal to say fire in a theater, let alone to shoot up a theater,” before setting bail at $350,000 on reckless discharge of a firearm charges.
The paper said the teen was charged as a juvenile with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
