(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Shots were fired at police in Ford Heights early Saturday, wounding one Lynwood Police officer.

The wounded officer from the Lynwood Police Department had been one of many officers responding from several jurisdictions to a shooting that happened shortly after 3 a.m. near the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and Ambassador Lane in Ford Heights.

They located a wounded man who was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Police did arrive to find a large crowd gathered and with numerous departments on scene, shots were again fired.

The Lynwood officer was struck in the shoulder. He did receive treatment at a nearby hospital but has since been released.
