Forklift driver leads Macon County deputies on 90-minute chase: 'One for the record books'

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Central Illinois’ Macon County sheriff said he’s never seen anything like it: a pursuit involving a forklift.

Dashcam video from a Macon County sheriff’s vehicle captured the pursuit — all 90 minutes of it. The driver, who was traveling at a very slow speed, simply refused to stop.

It went for about 10 miles, from the town of Warrensburg to Decatur.

Macon County Sheriff Jim Root told CBS 3 in Champaign that the chase was “one for the record books.”

The 41-year-old man, who was driving, finally stopped in the parking lot of a Caterpillar plant. It's unclear why he was driving the forklift that distance.

He was arrested on preliminary charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, as well as for numerous traffic violations.
