CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- What's two feet high and kills the coronavirus in the air?
Launched in November, it's the newest product from Chicago based AEX Technology Solutions.
"This is the AiroDoctor and it is the solution to provide clean air," said Vishal Goyal, CEO.
"The company was founded this year, in 2020, and it's primarily focused on bringing in unique technology solutions from around the world."
Goyal grew up in Elk Grove and has a pharmaceutical background. He decided to mix that specialty with technology and innovation at a time when air quality has taken on a new meaning.
"More and more information was coming out that the coronavirus was transmitted through the air. We scoured the world looking for a solution that has been proven, been tested, and can help with that part of the problem."
Goyal said the AiroDoctor utilizes four different filters and destroys and neutralizes viruses and has been tested against the human coronavirus.
"This product removes greater than 99 percent, but at the same time it's removing other pollutants that can negatively affect a person. In a 2,200 square foot space, it can clean that volume of air in 76 minutes."
The distribution center is based in Buffalo Grove, but the technology comes from South Korea.
"In South Korea, air quality is a concern and so that's where the premise came from. We want to bring it here to North America."
Goyal said the technology combines a 4-Stage System, with traditional air purification methods, plus a unique Photocatalytic Filter that uses UVA LED and Solid Titanium Dioxide to destroy and kill viruses and bacteria that are small enough to pass through the HEPA filter, like the human coronavirus.
AEX has already put the devices in gyms, corporate offices, and even residential homes. Goyal said just like we filter our water, we'll look at our air the same way from now on.
"Even in a post pandemic environment, this still has a place. What we are hearing is that the pandemic is creating a more awareness around the air quality that we are breathing in, that we are exposed to. Even with or without wearing masks, in different environments, it's on top of mind for everyone. This is not going away," he said.
AEX Technology Solutions was born out of the pandemic, but Goyal said it will meet a greater need as people care more about the air they breath.
"From businesses, to restaurants to hospitality even inside homes, it's where the AiroDoctor should be used. Better air quality will be the new norm," he said.
The device retails for $3,995 and is considered a medical device. Each unit covers about 21,500 cubic feet.
