CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A northwest suburban high school could serve as a COVID-19 vaccination hub for local educators.
Maine East High School in Park Ridge could become a COVID-19 vaccination site for educators in the northwest suburb, as Maine Township High School District 207 applied with the Cook County Department of Public Health for the school to become a mass vaccination site.
While the approval process is still underway, District 207 Superintendent Ken Wallace is putting out the call for volunteers to help if the site is selected.
"We are seeking volunteers right now as a proactive approach," Superintendent Ken Wallace wrote in a letter to the District 207 community Tuesday. "We want to be as prepared as possible if we are notified we have become a vaccination site."
Maine East would serve as a vaccination site for school staff from elementary and high school districts in Park Ridge, Des Plaines, and Norridge, along with private and parochial schools in the area.
While not confirmed, the site might also provide shots to other area residents who are eligible for vaccines at this time, he added.
"As you can imagine, there are many logistics and details that need to be worked out for this to occur," Wallace wrote.
Wallace said if selected, the site will be in need of both medical professionals and non-medical professional volunteers. All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
To sign up, those interested must visit the Illinois Department of Public Health website, to complete a volunteer form. Select "State COVID-19 Mass Vaccination" when completing the form.
The second step in the process at this time is to complete the District 207 form at: D207 COVID Volunteer Form. At this time, the district is seeking general interest from the community. By completing this form, you are not obligated to volunteer.
