WHEATON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Renovation work is officially underway on the DuPage Care Center.

DuPage County leaders held what they called a “renovation celebration” this week, as construction kicked off inside the center.

A more than $31 million project will help improve and renovate resident rooms, main entrances and lobbies, common areas and nurse stations. County leaders said cleaning solvents used during the COVID-19 pandemic took a big toll on the building, which they said was in desperate need of work.

The first section of the center undergoing renovations is the 80,000 square foot North Wing.

Work is expected to wrap up by July of 2025.
