Man, 21, shot in the neck after trying to stop violent attack

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 21-year-old man was shot in the neck early Wednesday morning after he tried to protect a woman who was being physically attacked, Chicago police said.

Authorities said it happened shortly after 12:15 a.m. near South Lawndale Avenue and West 13th Street.

After the 21-year-old tried to step in, the assailant pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Police said the shooter fled the scene.

The shooting victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

No one was in custody. Area Four detectives are investigating.
