(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 63-year-old Bartlett man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for the 2018 murder of a spa worker in the western suburbs.
A judge this week handed down the sentence to Donald Pelka, who will not be eligible for early release, DuPage County prosecutors announced.
In June, a jury convicted Pelka of murdering 29-year-old Kyle Gojdas nearly four years ago.
Gojdas was found fatally shot at the Bella One spa in Bloomingdale in September 2018. Police in Hanover Park pulled over Pelka for speeding and learned the vehicle he was in was linked to the murder.
An investigation determined that Pelka had been a customer at the spa and he and Gojdas, an employee, had argued in the parking lot, authorities said. Pelka allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot the Glendale Heights man twice in the torso, killing him.
Pelka has remained in custody since his arrest.
“Nearly four years ago, in a senseless act of cowardly violence, Donald Pelka murdered Kyle Gojdas. For the past four years, Kyle’s surviving family and friends have been forced to adjust to life without Kyle,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release.
