(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 68-year-old Orland Park man has been charged with a hate crime after he allegedly attacked his neighbors and made disparaging comments about their Palestinian heritage, authorities say.
The incident occurred Wednesday morning in the 15400 block of Begonia Court, police said. Terrence P. Clyne allegedly punched a neighbor in the face after the man moved garbage cans in a communal driveway.
Clyne is also accused of making “hateful comments, referring to the victim’s national Palestinian origin,” police said in a news release. When the male victim’s wife tried to deescalate the situation, Clyne likewise made hateful comments about her heritage, officials said.
He allegedly struck the male victim again, “causing the male victim to be pushed onto the female victim,” police said.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved two counts of misdemeanor battery, one for each victim, and one count of felony hate crime.
Clyne was expected in court Thursday. No further information was available.
