(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Federal authorities said a man from the Mexican state of Veracruz is responsible for masterminding the transfer of thousands of pounds of cocaine to Chicago and other cities - and now he's on the Drug Enforcement Administration's most wanted list.
The feds said some of the lieutenants in the drug trafficking ring have already been arrested and that a plane that was used to fly the cocaine in from Mexico was seized a couple of years ago in Gary, Indiana.
However, the mastermind himself is still not in custody, according to the DEA, so the agency has added Oswaldo Espinosa, 40 to its "wanted" list.
He and 14 others were indicted in federal court in Chicago four months ago.
Espinosa is wanted for conspiracy to distribute 5 kg or more of cocaine, possession w/ intent to distribute 5 kg or more of cocaine, and money laundering.
The Chicago Sun-Times has reported that the global supply of cocaine is at record levels as well as the amount of cocaine seized by authorities in Chicago.
