
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Police say a man took matters into his own hands when he encountered catalytic converter thieves early Tuesday morning on the Near North Side.
The man, 73 observed two individuals attempting to steal the catalytic converter from his vehicle on the 2000 block of North Larrabee Street in Lincoln Park. One of the suspects displayed a weapon, according to police.
At that time, the man, who was a FOID cardholder discharged his firearm, but did not strike anyone.
The suspects entered in a dark-in-color SUV and as they fled the scene, they struck a parked vehicle. No injuries were reported and no one is in custody.
Police are still investigating the incident.
