(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 19-year-old Aurora man is being jailed pending trial on charges he fired a gun at a Juneteenth celebration where a Willowbrook man was fatally wounded.
Anthony Mothershed is charged with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Prosecutors say Mothershed fired a .45-caliber pistol toward other people early June 18.
Reginald Meadows of Willowbrook, 31, was killed and 22 others were wounded when gunfire erupted in a strip mall parking lot near Kingery Highway and Honeysuckle Rose Lane. Mothershed allegedly was with several people outside Legacy Beauty Supply, and fled after the shooting.
Mothershed was arrested Wednesday and appeared in court Friday, officials said. His next court appearance is Oct. 23.
“A gathering of hundreds of people is no place for illegal guns, and my office stands ready to file the appropriate charges supported by evidence against anyone accused of behavior such as alleged in this case,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release.
An investigation into the shooting continues, authorities said.
