ROUND LAKE BEACH (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A man is now charged in the deadly shooting of a teenage girl in her Round Lake Beach home last month.
The charges against 19-year-old Shorbonia Poole, Jr. include murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Lake County authorities said he was initially brought in for questioning July 26, two days after the deadly shooting of Valeria Rodriguez. The 15-year-old was having dinner with her family inside their home in the 1500 block of Cherokee Drive when investigators said a stray bullet entered the home and struck her.
A search of Poole’s Round Lake Beach home revealed what authorities described as “substantial evidence,” most notably the gun they said was used in the murder.
“Our office continues to express our deep condolences and sympathies to the family of Valeria Rodriguez over their unimaginable loss. Our victim specialists have been working closely with the family since this crime occurred,” Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said in a statement. “The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, the Round Lake Beach Police Department, our Violent Crimes Unit, and our cyber forensic team have been working around the clock and have done an incredible job to secure justice for this senseless shooting.”
