CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man from North Chicago has been charged with assaulting a woman near Northwestern’s campus back in February.

Carlos E. Scott, 26 faces one felony count of criminal sexual abuse by force. Evanston Police said at about 10:30 p.m. on February 27, he grabbed a 20-year-old woman from behind in a stairwell as she was heading home near Noyes and Sherman.

The North Chicago man allegedly covered her mouth and groped her, which caused her to scream. Police said a friend who was on the phone with the victim, arrived and Scott took off. The victim suffered minor scratches to her body, according to police.

Northwestern University Police identified Scott from surveillance photos. The investigation indicated that a vehicle routinely driven by Scott was in Evanston at the time of the incident, and that he had been at the Northwestern women’s basketball game before the incident.

He was arrested a week ago and is being held without bond until his next court hearing.
