BENSENVILLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man is accused of driving drunk and crashing his car near O'Hare Airport, killing his stepdaughter who was in the car with him.
Juan Moxthe, 45 of Wood Dale was driving a car with three family members inside when it crashed last Sunday around 2:30 a.m. on West Irving Park Road in Bensenville.
Police said the car hit a median guardrail and flipped several times.
His stepdaughter was ejected and taken to a hospital where she died. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office later identified the woman as 28- year- old Jaylene Escamilla of Addison.
Moxthe’s BAC was 0.12 approximately two hours after the crash, according to the DuPage County State Attorney's office.
"Like all alleged DUI cases, the case against Mr. Moxthe was 100% avoidable,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said. “As I have said many times before, if you have been drinking, do not get behind the wheel of a car. Call a friend, a cab or use a ride sharing service to make sure you and your passengers get home safely.
A GoFundMe page to help raise funeral expenses states Escamilla was a mother of three. Her children are 1, 2 and 8 years old.
"If you knew Jaylene, you’d know how much she touched the lives of everyone around her and that she was the type of person that never hesitated to help others in need," wrote Laura Sanchez, organizer of the page.
"Her care extended beyond immediate family- it reached neighbors, friends, coworkers, and even those she had only just met."
Moxthe was seriously injured in the crash and is due in court January 8 facing chargs of Aggravated DUI Causing Death.
